Conscious Gear Expo is a volunteer-run collaborative led by Joe Rogers, Jr., Director of Policy and
Civic Engagement, Education Voters of New York; Janet Cox, active and devoted member of St. Mark's Methodist Church in Harlem; and Makeba Lloyd, Founder of Butter by Keba and volunteer press secretary
to the progressive policy, empowerment and action organization Harlem4 Center for Change.
Conscious Gear Expo coordinators and affiliates promote constructive and proactive approaches
to addressing the social injustices preventing our communities from reaching their full potential. We strongly believe
that our youth, empowered with well-honed critical thinking and advocacy skills, are essential partners in the movement for
positive social change. Developing the current and future young leaders of our communities ensures all of us a more
just and equitable tomorrow.
Thus, our mission: To encourage NYC youth
to play an active and creative role in strengthening our communities.
